June 2023 Newsletter

We made it to June! It is hard to believe a school year can go by so quickly! We certainly hope everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend and are ready to enjoy the last month of school. This past month of May was a busy one which included many exciting events and activities. Our Spring Concert was well-attended at Lakeland High School, and we are so proud of the efforts of our students and music teachers. Grade 5 enjoyed a Boces program focused on Marine ecosystems, and grade three engaged in aworkshop “Change for Species.” Our Parents as Writing Partners workshop came to an end and students published amazing writing pieces with their families. We thank Mrs. Quinn for organizing this! Teacher Appreciation Week was absolutely amazing. The staff at TJ thanks the PTA for a wonderful week of surprises! Our grade 2 students enjoyed their field trip to Teatown, grade 4 engaged in a full day Indian Journeys program and picnic lunch, and kindergarten went on a trip with our music teacher to see Peter and the Wolf at the Westchester Ballet. Grade one enjoyed a trip to Muscoot Farm. Mrs. O’Connor arranged for the grade 5 students to enjoy a workshop experience with a visiting artist. She also worked with the Mural Team to create the amazing Pawprints that guide us into the front doors of our school. We thank Mrs. Russo, librarian, for helping to organize Community Career Reader’s Day, and we participated in a Kindness Laser Show thanks to the efforts of the PTA. We thank our student council who worked with Mrs. Conetta for adding two paws to the front fence by Gomer Street, highlighting our TJ PRIDE. The entire school loved a musical presentation by John Farrell, and lived the Hollywood dream at our Spring Dance. Finally, kudos to our TJ Showstoppers for yet another outstanding performance. Music Man Jr. was stellar! Grade 5 engaged in a computer-based math field test on May 31.

As we near the end of school, students will be taking their final STAR assessment in both reading and math to see their progress throughout the year. They will also be assessed by June 2 on their end of year reading level. Our last day of school is June 23 and report cards will be opened in HAC for final grades. We still have a lot of amazing experiences coming in the month of June, and we wish you all a safe, happy, relaxing summer!! We will see you next school year!
