5139 Student Voter Registration and Pre-Registration

STUDENT VOTER REGISTRATION AND PRE-REGISTRATION

The District seeks to encourage student voter registration and pre-registration. A person who is at least sixteen years of age and who is otherwise qualified to register to vote may pre-register to vote, and will then be automatically registered to vote upon reaching the age of eligibility as provided by law.

The District promotes student voter registration and pre-registration through means such as:

a)      Collaborating with the county boards of elections to conduct voter registration and pre-registration in the District's high schools; and

b)      Encouraging voter registration and pre-registration through the student government association, government/civics classes and/or at various student events throughout the year.

It shall be the responsibility of the students registering or pre-registering to vote to send or deliver the registration/pre-registration documents to the county board of elections in which they reside.

The completion and submission of voter registration or pre-registration forms is voluntary and no student will be penalized for choosing not to do so.  Registration/Pre-Registration will not be a course requirement or graded assignment.
