EXPECTATIONS
1. Students need to come to class on time and be prepared with a pen and notebook daily. They need to bring HW/Essays in on time when due.
2. If absent, please call the Attendance Office and send in a note to avoid being charged with an unexcused class cut.
3. Class cuts result in detention and zeroes for work covered that day.
4. Students need to purchase and leave in class a jacketed folder to save important work.
5. Students need a 100-page HISTORY ONLY notebook (front jacket handy). This is to be used daily in class. Keeping good notes is key to passing exams. It may be collected and graded.
6. Essay format to be used for DBQ's(Document Based Questions-Essays) and for Thematic Essays is set up Quarter One in the notebooks. Introduction(3 sentences) Body Body Body(8-10 sent. ea.) and a Conclusion(3 sentences) Bodies may be 2-4 paragraphs. Body paragraphs on DBQ's include using and citing one more than half of the documents(usually 5). Add/include ROI-Relevant Outside Information and Hi-Lite it. Students need to purchase a Hi-Liter. Check Mr. Sullivan's Panas Web Site for "Help Writing Essays". .
7. Extra help is offered Period 9 – 2:00-2:30 Mon-Tues-Wed-Thurs. or by appointment.
8. Ninth grade Honors Global History students are also part
of a "new" ADVANCED PLACEMENT WORLD HISTORY course that began at
Panas in Sept. 2003, nationally 2001. It is a 2 year program that leads to
an early May AP EXAM in Grade 10. Scoring a 3-4-or 5 on the exam ($80) may
be rewarded with college credit. Check about an individual institution's policy
in its catalog or Web site. It is a challenging college level course that
averages one hour per night homework. Students use two textbooks and begin
to write the three essay types for the AP exam. A 90+ average is recommended
in addition to high motivation to enter and stay in the course.
There is also the Global II Regents level course. ALL tenth graders take the
June Regents based on Global I and Global II.
9. Grade 10 REGENTS students need to purchase in November a Global Review Book(approx. $8) It will help them review ninth grade material and prepare for the Regents. Assignments and quizzes will be given from it quite often from Dec.-June. We have several Monday review book quizzes. 3rd and 4th Quarter we write several Friday Thematic Essays in class. AP students purchase a Princeton - Cracking the AP review book ($20) and use it for a series of review exams in April. Both books contain sample essays, review material, and exams.
10. ANY questions/problems on any grades/comments from
the Interims and Report Cards - please call me. Do not wait until April.

GRADING POLICIES
1. Students need to bring in homework and essays completed and on time to receive full credit.
2. Homework is given and graded once or twice each week. Tests and other essays may be given in that same week. AP-HW is given daily (average is 4 assignments every 5 days) and graded. Weekly calendars are given out.
3. Homework is usually given 2 days to complete. ex. Monday due Wed. AP HW is expected the next day.
4. Homework late penalty is 50 points per day late. Essays will be 25 pts. per day late penalty. Tests need to be made up within 3-5 days after an absence, trip, music lesson, etc. After that it becomes a Zero (exceptions for long absences, home tutoring, unique situations, etc.)
5. Essays should be thorough (answer all parts) and neat. They should be computer-typed or on Regents essay paper handed out in class. Use Intro-Body-Body-Conclusion format.
6. Tests are given after every chapter (every 6-10 days). 21 chapters are covered in grade nine, and 15 chapters in grade ten.
7. Homework = 30-40% of the report card average
Tests- there are 4-6/quarter = 30-40% of average
Essays- 2-4/Quarter = 20-33%
of average
There are paragraphs and
other essays attached to exams also.
8. Mid-term Exam is a cross-district exam near end of January= 20% of the second quarter report card grade. Global I is usually 1 1/2 hrs. long; Global II is like a Regents (on work covered) - 3 hrs.
9. Global I Final - cross district exam - 3 hrs. long -around June 15 - covers Chapters 1- 20/21 - modeled like a Regents.
10. Global II - All tenth grade takes the State Regents -3 hrs. - around June 18. The AP World History exam is in early May.
11.The Final or Regents counts 20% of the years average.
12. Anything missed during an unexcused absence/class cut = a zero.

Tenth Grade Advanced Placement World History
Expectations
1. Pen, notebook, organized binder or folder for outlines, Blue/Yellow Hiliters
2. Homework and essays need to be completed and turned in when assigned.
3. Students are responsible for organized notes and outlines.
4. Essays are done according to AP guidelines-they received these in the summer
reading packet and should follow these all year. (3 types)
5. Chapter tests will occur every 6-10 days.
6. There is an average of an hour per night reading or essays/homework. Weekly
calendars will be given out.
Grading Policies
1. Homework should arrive on time and neatly done. Penalty is 50Pts./Day late
2. Essays need to be neatly done-preferably typed. Most are assigned with
an
seven to twelve day completion period. 25Pts./day late penalty
3. Tests need to be made up within 3 days of returning from a legit absence
4. Percents vary and change during each quarter, but homeworks, essays and
tests
each count 30-40% of report card grades.
