Regents Test Taking Strategies
1. Read the
Thematic and DBQ Essay questions. Use
the multiple choice questions that apply as relevant outside information for
your essays.
2. Multiple Choice
- Read
the questions carefully.
- Try
and determine the answer before reading the choices.
- Read
the ALL of the Choices carefully.
- Use
the process of elimination.
- Choose
the best answer.
- Unless
you are sure of the change, go with your first (gut) feeling.
3. Scaffolding
- Read
the whole document carefully.
- Look
at the question.
- Reread
the document and find all information that applies.
- Answer
the question in a full sentence.
4. Essays-DBQ
& Thematic
- Read
the task carefully
- Think
about all parts of the task and what you are asked to do.
- Write
your thesis statement.
- Make
an outline to help organize your essay.
- Write
your essay.
- Proofread
your essay to check whether or not all aspects of the
task have been completed.
5. Sign all of
the Sheets you will turn in.

not turn in your papers until 2:00. You
also may not leave before 2:00. These are the states’ rules. So there is no reason to rush through the
test.
