Winslow Homer/Poetry Unit

created by Period 7 - English 11R - Ms. Erichsen

Walter Panas High School - Lakeland Central School District

This website is a publication in process. It has evolved through our study of poetry and the timely coincidence of a speaker at our school, Dr. Elizabeth Johns, who has recently published a book on the art and life of the American artist, Winslow Homer. We began by looking at images of some of Homer's works, chose one particular image that struck us, and then wrote our own poetry in response to the particular painting. Now, curiosity has gotten the best of us and we are actively researching information on Homer's life and work and what others have learned about his paintings and illustrations. Our goal is two-fold: to create a web site that you will want to investigate if you were researching Homer and, also, to share some of our writing and responses.
