(College Search/ Priority List)


Find out what characteristics are important to look for when selecting a school. Gather information on schools. Make a list of the schools that possess those characteristics and that best meet your goals and needs.

1. Using the websites above, determine which schools fit into these three categories: website and/or
 

  • Reach- your dream school - it might be more selective but it is worth a try
  • Middle- your grades and SAT should make a perfect fit, but one never knows
  • Safety- you are probably a sure bet for acceptance and would consider it
 

You can use the following as possible criteria:

  • geographic location- distance from home
  • school setting:urban vs rural vs suburban
  • size of the student body
  • student to faculty ratio
  • competitiveness
  • majors and other areas of interest
  • extra-curricular sports and activities
  • diversity
  • financial cost
  • internship programs
  • job placement services
  • fraternities/sororities
  • study abroad programs

Some of the sites may allow you to create a login so you can return to your results. Then answer the questions. Keep on clicking next until you have answered all the questions. Then click on 'See results'.

 

 

2. Compare your three choices using a College Planner for each college.

Fill out the information for each school. The Common Application site has much of the infomation that you need. If your school uses the Common Application, click on the school name.

(Open the College Planner; 'save as' cpcollegename in your documents folder. Then begin to fill out.)
