Van Cortlandtville’s PBIS Action Plan 2023-2024

Dear Van Cortlandtville Families,
This year Van Cortlandtville will continue to implement the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program. PBIS is designed to further support our Character Education program by highlighting and celebrating positive behavior. This program will also continue to supply students with skills to handle potentially negative situations and think about the best course of action. There are many benefits to having a school-wide behavioral system in place. The most important is that this behavioral approach incorporates everyone and excludes no one. Students are able to see that we are all in support of them and that we all contribute to our school’s success and safety.

In order to maintain consistency and continue to be successful, we will continue with our acronym R.O.C.K.S. (Respectful, Organized, Cooperative, Kindness and Safety). When a student is exhibiting positive behavior, we give them a ticket and explain to them why they earned it. By naming the behavior, we are hoping to raise the level of consciousness and accountability which will lead to a recurrence of this positive behavior. Students are rewarded in a variety of ways throughout the year when they reach certain plateaus on our PBIS Rewards Chart.

Each month there will be a school wide assembly defining the character education theme of the month to promote that positive behavior celebrated. Students will have the opportunity to be the student of the month of their class by nomination from their teachers who will be on the lookout for students exhibiting the positive behavior named for that month.

Finally, we will continue to motivate our students to live up to the Van Cort pledge and be respectful, hardworking students who are responsible for their actions and schoolwork through our reward system and our Learning Banquet, which was a huge success last year.  We continue to thank our staff for all the hard work that they have done to ensure the behavioral successes of our students. It is because of the collaboration amongst our many staff members that our students have embraced and succeeded with our PBIS program and truly prove that Van Cort R.O.C.K.S.!

Sincerely,
PBIS Committee
