Fall Sports Update: High-Risk Fall Sports, Girls Swimming and Modified Athletics

I wanted to provide an update to my communication from last week (9/3/20) regarding the status of the high-risk fall sports of football, volleyball and cheerleading for the upcoming 2020-21 school year.

I regret to inform you that last evening the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), our governing body of New York's interscholastic sports, made the official announcement to postpone the high-risk fall sports of football, volleyball and cheerleading this fall. Football, volleyball and cheerleading will be moved to a condensed, “fall two,” season model which is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2021, and will not begin on 9/29/20.

An additional note is that the winter cheerleading season is not postponed and is still scheduled to begin on 11/30/20 with the rest of the winter sports. Currently, just the fall cheerleading season is being moved to “fall season two.” Finally, there are no additional updates in regards to girls swimming nor modified athletics at this time for this fall season. I will provide an update as soon as information becomes available.
