Technology Benchmarks for Students

English Language Arts

Standard 1: Students will read, write, listen and speak for information and understanding.

Student Outcomes

Students will:

  • Collect data, facts, and ideas
  • Interpret information presented
  • Locate specific examples and the details to support their response
  • Write words, phrases, and factual sentences that explain or describe a picture, fact or concept
  • Use semantic webbing, brainstorming, listing, graphic organizers, etc.
  • Use an organizational format that reflects a beginning, middle, and end
  • Listen to acquire information
  • Listen to follow directions
  • Retell information in sequence
  • Share observations
  • Ask questions to clarify

Standard 2: Students will read, write, listen and speak for literary response and expression.

Student Outcomes

Students will:

  • Retell a story identifying characters, settings, and events in sequence, problem/conflict and solution
  • Make connections between personal experiences and stories

Standard 3: Students will read, write, listen and speak for critical analysis and evaluation.

Student Outcomes

Students will:

  • Express an opinion about statements, illustrations, characters, and events in written and visual texts
  • Use prewriting tools such as semantic webs and concept maps to organize ideas and information

Standard 4: Students will read, write, listen and speak for social interaction.

Student Outcomes

Students will:

  • Respect individual differences (age, gender, culture) of writer

Technology Benchmarks for Students

Standard 1: The student is an information navigator.
Information Acquisition: Use online and electronic resources to communicate, collaborate, and retrieve information

Standard 3: The student is a builder of knowledge using technology, media and telecommunications.
Input and Output Devices: Use input and output devices to successfully use modern technologies

Standard 4: The student is an effective communicator through a variety of appropriate technologies/media.
Publishing: Design, develop, publish, and present multimedia and online products using technology resources that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences inside and outside the classroom

Standard 6: The student is a technician.
Basic Operations and Networking: Understand and effectively utilize a networked computer system

Standard 7: The student is a responsible citizen, worker, learner, community member and family member in a technological age.
