  • Lakeland Community Update October 7 (Spanish version)- Earlier today (Oct. 7), we were notified that two students were identified as COVID-19 positive, one at Walter Panas High School, and one at Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School. Students and staff who were in contact with these students are being notified and will be informed that they will need to quarantine for 14 days.   • Lakeland Community Update October 6 (Spanish version) - Today, two students attended school at Walter Panas High School in person instead of remaining at home in isolation as instructed by a school staff member. As a result, a number of other students and staff were in contact with these two students. While the students who came to school without authorization are not currently known to be COVID positive, this is a very serious situation. Initially, students and staff who had contact with these students were notified they must isolate for 14 days. After further consultation with our District Physician and the Department of Health, it was determined that this was not necessary. This latest decision is consistent with the Department of Health guidelines for a “contact of a contact.”...
  • Lakeland Community Update October 5 (Spanish version) - Regarding today's switch to remote learning due to a positive COVID test at Walter Panas High School, the parents/guardians of all students who may have had contact with the affected student have been contacted by a school nurse today. The Department of Health (DOH) will conduct contact tracing with the assistance of the District. If you have not received a call from your child’s school nurse today, your child is not a contact and you do not need to take any action. If you received a call from your child’s school nurse today that your child is a contact, the DOH will directly follow up with you.   • Lakeland Community Update October 4, 2020 (Spanish version) - Walter Panas High School received notification late this evening from a parent that their child had tested positive for COVID-19. The student was last in school on Thursday, October 1. The district will be contacting the Westchester Department of Health (DOH) to coordinate contact tracing efforts. In order to complete this process, it will be necessary to have Walter Panas High School switch to a fully remote learning model for Monday, October 5. The student had not been in school since Thursday, September 24, of last week. The district contacted the Westchester Department of Health (DOH) to coordinate contact tracing efforts.
