- Lakeland Community Update October 6 (Spanish version) - Today, two students attended school at Walter Panas High School in person instead of remaining at home in isolation as instructed by a school staff member. As a result, a number of other students and staff were in contact with these two students. While the students who came to school without authorization are not currently known to be COVID positive, this is a very serious situation. Initially, students and staff who had contact with these students were notified they must isolate for 14 days. After further consultation with our District Physician and the Department of Health, it was determined that this was not necessary. This latest decision is consistent with the Department of Health guidelines for a “contact of a contact.”...

The Department of Health (DOH) will conduct contact tracing with the assistance of the District. If you have not received a call from your child’s school nurse today, your child is not a contact and you do not need to take any action. If you received a call from your child’s school nurse today that your child is a contact, the DOH will directly follow up with you.
