Fifth grade is hard at work! In Math, we are currently working on division strategies for both whole numbers and decimals. In ELA, we just completed the story Esperanza Rising. It is a historical fiction book about a Mexican family migrating to the United States during the 1930's. We had some great discussions about the story and many students wrote wonderful expository pieces about human rights. Fifth grade will transition from fiction to non-fiction as we will be reading The Most Beautiful Roof in the World; which is an informational text about a biologist who studies the rainforest. In Science, we are learning about the "micro world" and we will be covering concepts like cells, classification and microscopes. There's a lot of exciting things taking place in fifth grade!
