February is sure to be a sweet month in first grade! This month, we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day. If your child decides to hand out valentines on February 14th, please ensure that every child in his/her class will receive one. An updated class list will be sent home.
We are also looking forward to celebrating The 100th Day of School on Monday, February 13th! Our class parents will be contacting you to help us organize a very special 100th Day snack. We also sent home information about a 100th day project that your child will work on at home. Projects will be due on Monday, February 13th!
In Fundations, we will be completing Unit 8 which focuses on blends and digraph blends. Please encourage your child to look for blends when they are reading at home.
In English Language Arts, we are learning facts about famous Americans including Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, Jackie Robinson, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. In the biographies that we are reading, we are working on finding the main idea and supporting details.
In Math, we have started a unit on measurement. We will be comparing lengths using the words longer than and shorter than. We will also be collecting information using surveys to create graphs. We will be looking at the data to ask and answer questions.
In Social Studies, we will be learning about communities and community workers.
Please continue to encourage your child to practice reading and writing the trick words using the flashcards and the My Little Word Wall Book at home. Please continue to encourage your child to utilize Dreambox and Raz Kids at home.
Please remember to send your child to school with one healthy snack daily.
