Here is what the kindergarteners will be doing over the next month!
We will continue to focus on the following skills during our Shared Reading experiences over the next month:
Making text-to-self connections
Making text-to-text connections
Sequencing the story
Looking at literary elements- characters and setting
Discussing problem and solution
Writing is going well. The students have been doing persuasive writing and they are wonderful at convincing others of what they want. We will be moving on to writing about our neighborhood and community. We are focusing on adding details to our pictures and adding more than one sentence.
Some literacy skills we continue to focus on during our Literacy Block include:
Tapping sounds in words
Matching picture with text
Looking at beginning letter of words
Using our reading finger
Looking at word endings
The children have book baggies with just right books which they read each day. The students are increasing their fluency with these books.
We have been working on word wall words. Please keep a lookout for the following words when you are reading with your child at home: the, I, me, my, to, like, a, is, can, am, see, do, at, up, we, go, and, like, went, he, she, it, in, had, and to.
We are working on Unit 3 of our Fundations Program. Each day we continue to focus on letter-keyword-sound. We have also begun tapping out the sounds of words and blending. The children are doing a great job!
We will work on being good citizens within our community! Each child will work on making good choices. The students will continue to practice being G.E.O.R.G.E. throughout the day.
We had special educators from Boces come visit our classrooms last month with some special guests- real animals. The children learned about hibernation, winter sleepers, active animals and migration. Our next unit will be continuing our Science Unit 2 on forces. We are focusing on pushes and pulls, and how the magnitude of a force can effect how objects move.
We will be focusing composing and decomposing numbers to 10. Graphing and calendar patterning continues. The students will be looking at a new pattern this month. We will continue to use math vocabulary when looking at these calendar pieces.
