Database Portal This portal will give students and teachers access to all of the databases that LCBMS library subscribes to. You may access the databases using the school's password. Please email your Librarian, Mrs. Browne, if you do not know the password at firstname.lastname@example.org
Our library is open before school for research, finishing homework, and quiet reading. A pass is necessary if you wish to come before school.
At LCBMS, the full-time librarian is assisted by one full-time secretary. The secretary handles not only the circulation and shelving of materials, but also types orders, processes materials, adds and deletes records in the automated card catalog, makes calls and processes information for interlibrary loans. The library media specialist does all of the above and also selects materials, creates bibliographies, gives book talks, designs and maintains this web page, and presents formal lessons to any class when it is requested. Mrs Browne also assists students with research and personal information needs and maintains the laptop cart in the Library for student and class use. They are both available at all times to assist students in finding whatever it is they are looking for - whether it be a book or information from a database. Teachers may sign up to bring their classes to the library at any time, and on most days at least two or three classes come to the library -- some days we have as many as 9 classes per day, whew!
The mission of the library media program at all Lakeland Libraries is to provide the students and staff with an environment that fosters the development of independent thinkers who value lifelong learning and are capable of participating fully in a rapidly changing world.
GOALS OF THE LIBRARY MEDIA PROGRAM:
To provide as promptly as possible a high percentage of the materials needed by the users.
To effectively incorporate appropriate technology into the design and implementation of instruction.
To work with the faculty to gain a clear understanding of their educational objectives and to communicate to them the ways in which library skills can be integrated into their existing curricula.
To teach students to use the library while developing location, research and literature appreciation skills. To encourage and share a love of reading
