PHYSICALS - NY State law has been revised and now requires a physical examination for all students entering Kindergarten, Grades 2, 4, 7 and 10 and for all students transferring into the Lakeland School District.

New students received a physical exam form at the time of registation. All other students were given a form with their report cards. If you have not already sent this form in to schol, please have your physician complete it and return it to the school nurse in September. There is also the option of having our school doctor complete an exam.

MEDICATIONS - NO medication, of any kind, is permitted in school.  NY State law requires a written doctor's order and parental permission before school personnel may administer any needed drug in school.  This law includes all over the counter meds (cough drops, syrups, sprays, ointments, lotions, vitamins) and all prescription medication.

PEDICULOSIS - Lice outbreaks are common among school children.  Lice avoidance should be stressed; no sharing of combs, brushes, hats or clothing; no dropping of sweaters or jackets in communal piles.  Parents are encouraged to check their children's scalps periodically and if head lice are detected, immediate corrective action be taken.  September through November are the most active months nationwide in terms of reported cases of pediculosis Alert and conscientious parents can reduce the problem significantly.  If you child does contract head lice, call the school nurse so that head checks can be done on his/her class.  Parental vigilance goes a long way in preventing an annoying and costly outbreak.

REGISTRATION - If you have a child or know of a neighbor or friend who has a child eligible for kindergarten, please tell them to call the George Washington office at 528-2021 or pick up a packet in the main office, as soon as possible.

GYM EXCUSES - Should your child have an injury or illness that necessitates being out of physical education for longer than two classes, we will need a doctor's note stating the duration of the exclusion and a note when the child is ready to resume activities.  Please send notes to the school nurse who will notify teachers.  Thank you.
