May
in Kindergarten
Here
is what the kindergarteners will be doing over the next
month!
Literacy:
We continue with Writer’s Workshop. The students will
continue learning to use different types of paper for the
different types of writing they are doing. We continue to
work on labeling, making lists and writing sentences!
Some
literacy skills we continue to focus on during our Literacy
Block include:
· Matching picture
with text
· Looking at beginning
letter of words
· Using our reading
finger
· Rhyming
· Looking at word endings
·Blending
sounds together
We
have been working on word wall words. Please keep a lookout
for the following words when you are reading with your child
at home: a, and, at, go, is, in, I, to, the, see, my, we
& on.
Social
Studies:
We continue to enjoy Star Student of the Week! We are learning
so much about our friends! The Star Student of the Week
will take us all the way to the end of the month.
Science:
We will continue our unit on living and non-living things.
We are enjoying learning about our class pets. The children
are helping to take care of the newts and observing how
they live. We will be doing some planting this month. The
kindergarteners will plant a pumpkin patch that they will
harvest as first graders!
Math:
We continue to focus on the formation and value of the numbers
1-10 and move forward with 11 and 12.
Graphing
and calendar patterning continues. The students will be
looking at an AABCC pattern on the calendar and graphing
the weather each day. We will continue to use math vocabulary
when looking at these calendar pieces.
