New York State Assessments
During the week of January 7, all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade
students completed The New York State English Language
Arts Assessments and we feel confident that the students
did well and were well prepared! We are now gearing up
for the New York State Math Assessment, which will be given
to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students during the week
of March 3, 2008.
Peaceful Playground
We are making progress implementing the Peaceful Playground.
The faculty, staff, parents, and students have been educated.
The equipment has arrived. The games have been spray painted
on the blacktop near the gym. The far blacktop, near the
kindergarten wing, will be spray painted during the spring.
The students have begun playing various Peaceful Playground
games during their gym classes. In addition, the students
are playing these games during recess and discipline issues
are on the decline.
School Delay
On days where we have a 2-hour delay ALL before school activities
are cancelled. That includes: intramurals, music rehearsals,
children’s center, etc. Students are expected to
arrive at George Washington two hours later than normal
start time (10:25 a.m.).
Appropriate Clothing
Student safety is always a priority at George Washington
School. Since the weather has turned snowy and icy, please
have your children wear appropriate outerwear. They need
warm jackets, gloves, hats and appropriate footwear.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration will be held from February 4th
through February 8th. If you have a child of kindergarten
age (their birthday must be on or before December 1, 2002),
please call the school and request a kindergarten packet.
Kindergarten Screening
Kindergarten screening will take place on April 14 and 15.
There will be a morning session and an afternoon session.
You will be given an appointment at registration if your
packet is complete.
Visitors to School
All visitors to the school must sign in at the office and
wear a visitor’s pass. Visitors are not to roam in
hallways or go from classroom to classroom visiting their
children. Thank you for your cooperation.
Lateness
No child should be dropped off at school prior to 8:25 a.m.
unless he/she is involved in chorus, band, or orchestra
rehearsal. There are no provisions for the early supervision
of children. The student’s school
day starts at 8:25 a.m., please ensure a timely start to
the day.
Character Education Podcasting at George Washington and
More
Podcasting is a way to automatically download and synchronize
digital audio files from the Internet to iPods, Palm OS handhelds,
Pocket PCs, or other devices that play digital audio files.
These audio files are usually in MP3 format and can be recorded
and distributed by anyone. There are podcasts recorded by
educators for educators. There are also podcasts recorded
specifically for students. And best yet—there are podcasts
made by our students! Listen to the podcasts of the George
Washington students on the school’s webpage.
Lost and Found
Many items (hats, coats, gloves, scarves) are located on
the lost and found rack to be claimed. Please have your
children stop by and take a look to see if any items belong
to them.
