Come Grow With Us

Day 1

We planted our pea, lima and pumpkin seeds. We put the seeds in soil, in a clear plastic cup so we could see the roots when they began to grow. We put the cups on the window ledge where the seeds would get sunlight and we watered them. Our prediction was that the seeds would get what they need to grow.

Day 7

Many of our plants are growing now. The plants are growing leaves and we can see the roots. We are watering the plants about twice a week and keeping them in a place where they receive sunlight. A few seeds have still not sprouted. We wonder if they were soaked for too long before being planted in soil, or if they were over watered after being planted.

Day 11

We have been watering our plants and charting their growth in our plant journals. Some have grown as much as 9 inches tall now! Some seeds have still not sprouted and we question why.

Day 14

Sun and water have allowed many of our plants to grow over 11 inches tall now! The tallest plants are reaching and bending toward the sunlight.

Day 20

Our plants continue to grow. Some are even over one foot tall! A few of the stems have snapped over on their side because they grew so tall. We put sticks in our plant cup and tied string around the stem to help support the plant as it grew taller. Each of the plants has many leaves now. Our results have proven that certain conditions are necessary for our seeds to grow well.

We also put two planted seeds in cups in our closet. We did not water one cup and neither seed got any sunlight. Neither seed grew.
