Fourth Grade Newsletter ~  February 2017

English Language Arts – The fourth grade students are continuing their unit on exploring literature settings, which includes time and place.  The students are learning to apply their knowledge of setting to their written work.  The students will continue to read, and answer higher order thinking questions in their reading assignments.

Math – The students are working very hard on the geometry unit.  We are learning about points, lines, line segments, rays and angles.  Please encourage your student to practice their basic multiplication and division facts and always use the strategies that we are learning in class.

Science – The students will be working on the “Simple Machines” unit.  They will learn about the main six simple machines and about friction and force.

Social Studies - The students will be learning about explorers and then will move on to study the colonial period in New York.  Ask your child about the Dutch influence in our area.  Your child should also be able to tell you about the daily life of a colonial child.
